802 Global will distribute Genetec's AutoVu ANPR system in the UK

802 Global – the wireless products distributor – is to distribute AutoVu, the automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) system from Genetec in the UK. AutoVu’s IP-based technology features onboard digital video processing and industrial-grade durability, with applications including policing, revenue control, surveillance and parking.

Vehicle-mounted AutoVu units enable police forces and other enforcement bodies to carry out mobile surveys of parked or moving traffic and to compare license plates in real-time with a database of wanted vehicles. The system has the ability to span two lanes of traffic and has capabilities to allow data to be captured from vehicles moving at speeds of up to or 225km/h (140mph). As well as reading the license plates of moving vehicles, AutoVu can accurately read those of vehicles that are parallel, 45° or 90° parked.

“AutoVu is an exciting development in the field of ANPR,” says Tim Close, managing director of 802 Global. “The use of IP technology means that license plate information can be analyzed and compared to databases in real-time to ensure the police and other authorities have the best possible information at their fingertips.”
