ATX launches in-vehicle speed camera alerts for Peugeot drivers

ATX Group has announced the launch of a web-based service in France and the UK, which offers Peugeot drivers the ability to receive audio and visual in-vehicle alerts about the location of safety cameras monitoring vehicle speeds. The new pay-per-use service is being promoted as ‘WIP Info Radars’ in France and ‘Peugeot Connect Downloads’ in the UK. The system is offered through a web portal developed and hosted by ATX, enabling Peugeot drivers in France and the UK to continually download updates on safety monitoring camera sites throughout 14 countries in Europe (France, UK, Italy, Spain, Andorra, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czech Republic and Slovenia).

The data is downloaded to a USB flash drive, or memory card, that can then be plugged into the car’s in-built navigation system. Drivers who purchase the information will then receive alerts through their in-vehicle display screen when approaching an area where a safety camera is located. The ATX-hosted portal will be accessible through the personalized pages created by vehicle owners on the Peugeot website. In addition to providing the vehicle owner with a log of what they’ve downloaded, the portal will also enable them to access the most recent file purchased, and when available, purchase additional updates to the speed camera data. Payment will be handled through credit cards.

“Enabling the connection with web-based applications to get information to the vehicle will become one of the primary characteristics of connected vehicle services,” explains Arnaud de Meulemeester, managing director of ATX in Europe. Texas-based ATX helped pioneer the first in-vehicle access to online content in 2001 and the first download of online content to a vehicle in 2007. The company currently provides connected vehicle services to several Europe-based car manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
