ComNet approved as fiber-optic transmission equipment supplier by two state DOTs

One of the ITS industry’s leading manufacturers of fiber-optic transmission and networking equipment, ComNet (Communication Networks), has been approved as a supplier of fiber-optic transmission products by the Georgia and North Carolina Departments of Transportation. Both state DOTs subjected ComNet’s equipment to a rigorous and intense testing process to confirm the equipment is compliant with their specifications, and subsequently met their requirements for use on state road and highway systems.

The key facilitator for the approval process was ComNet’s eastern region ITS sales manager, Dave Sinise. “Getting these approvals – and being entered on to each of these state’s QPLs (qualified parts lists) – is an important step in giving the state DOTs a better alternative to the fiber-optic equipment previously installed within their ITS systems,” he says. “Our fiber-optic transmission and Ethernet equipment is designed and built in the USA and is readily available, and we back all of our products with a lifetime warranty. This clearly demonstrates our confidence in our products’ long-term reliability when installed in difficult roadside environments.”

“The approvals we had received and the subsequent entry to the QPL by the Georgia and North Carolina DOTs were not surprising to us,” adds Bruce M Berman, ComNet vice president of new business development. “Based upon our success in these two states, any DOT would have no challenge in selecting ComNet Ethernet or other fiber-optic transmission equipment for use within their existing or future ITS deployments.”

ComNet’s products are used by transportation agencies for transmitting CCTV, access control, tunnel fire and alarm signals over optical fiber. The company also provides specialized ITS equipment, such as fiber-optic systems for transmitting video data for Vehicle Identification (VIN), and data signalization for traffic controllers and Variable Message Signs (VMS).
