NAVTEQ signs two new contracts with ALK Technologies and LocationNet

NAVTEQ has signed two new contracts to supply its map and content data to navigation service providers. The first is a new global contract with ALK Technologies to supply map data and content for the company’s CoPilot Live GPS navigation products. The new agreement reaffirms an already longstanding relationship between the two companies. The second is with Israel-based LocatioNet, which has relaunched its amAze cell phone-based navigation service in Europe, now using map data from NAVTEQ.

ALK’s CoPilot Live is an EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) market leader in perpetual licence smartphone navigation and is now available on the iPhone App Store. “Our recently launched CoPilot Live v8 smartphone navigation software for iPhone Windows Mobile and Android smartphones already features the NAVTEQ Map in EMEA and brings great innovations such as extended lanes, speed limit alerts and branded POIs to smartphone navigation,” says Michael Kornhauser, managing director, CoPilot Solutions at ALK Technologies. “We are pleased to be extending our relationship with NAVTEQ, as we bring CoPilot Live’s premium-quality navigation experience to new markets across the globe.”

LocatioNet’s server-based amAze provides turn-by-turn navigation and is compatible with most Java and Windows Mobile phones, with plans to launch Android and iPhone versions soon. NAVTEQ already provides the map content for its North America and Asia-Pacific service. The new contract is for European map data. “We are very pleased to expand our relationship with NAVTEQ into Europe,” states Ofer Tziperman, president of LocatioNet. “NAVTEQ’s single global map specification, broad geographic footprint and rich content supports our plans to take amAze into additional regions and markets.”
