Right: Toyota is entering the Chinese telematics market with an offering  based on the company’s G-Book service

Toyota is praparing to launch an in-vehicle telematics service in the Chinese market as early as 2009. This will be the Japanese car maker’s first attempt to deploy a telematics service outside of its home territory.

It will collaborate with local wireless carriers and design an in-vehicle terminal which complies with regional specifications. It is expected to be based on the company’s G-Book service, which was launched in Japan five years ago.

The system is likely to be used first in its Lexus range of luxury  models.
