Lingtu launches virtual earth mapping for China

Digital map developer Beijing Lingtu Software has launched a full release of internet-based ‘virtual earth’ products – LTEARTH for China. The launch follows four months of detailed local testing.

Right: Lingtu's internet-based ‘virtual earth’ products are now available for all of China's 337 cities

A year ago, Lingtu – which claims to be China’s leading digital mapping and location-based services (LBS) company – secured US$30 million in financing from Gobi Partners and five other investors. The company has deployed significant resources to increase the coverage, level of detail and accuracy of its mapping and geospatial database.

“We have maps for all of China’s 337 cities,” says Tang Ningzhe, CEO of Lingtu. “We are on a relentless mission to finish mapping out China’s countryside, its ever-expanding road network and the exploding number of points of interest and addresses. Lingtu will also stay ahead of the curve and transition to dynamic 3D maps.”

Industry analysts predict that the global digital mapping and LBS market will reach more than US$50 billion in revenues by 2008.
