ITS UK and the FCS announce joint event on the future of in-vehicle ITS installations

The Federation of Communication Services (FCS) and the Intelligent Transport Society for the United Kingdom (ITS UK) have teamed up to stage a joint event, which will signpost the way to the future for professional installation businesses. The FCS is the trade association for the communication services sector, representing companies delivering products and services by means of radio, mobile, fixed and IP telephony. The FCS and ITS UK have announced a joint event on the future of in-vehicle installation to be held on May 19, 2011 in Daventry. Changing markets and technology mean that demand for traditional in-vehicle installation services has been falling, while the growth in use of tracking systems and intelligent transport technology is opening up new areas of opportunity.

The event, to be held under the banner of Installation Futures – ITS in your vehicle, will highlight the drivers for change and also focus on the best practice which will be needed to capitalize on the new opportunities that are emerging. “Over recent years FCS Comms Installer has become the premier UK event for the installers of communications equipment into vehicles and associated manufacturers, distributors and end-users,” commented John Thomson of Panorama Antennas, the chairman of the FCS Installers Committee. “Our involvement with ITS UK will enable us to bring a new dimension to the event in 2011. The focus is on new and developing technologies, involving telematics and intelligent transport systems, and the opportunities these will bring to the installation sector.”

“We see growing alignment between the interests of these two organizations and we believe this event will offer a unique opportunity to foster a closer understanding of each other’s areas of expertise,” added ITS UK’s chairman, Mike Schofield of Atkins. “It will facilitate increased dialogue and a better mutual understanding of policies, procedures and operational requirements. Prevailing financial conditions necessitate stringent examination of current practices and invite partnerships between those who have related interests.” The line-up of speakers for the event reflects this theme. Contributions from organizations including innovITS and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have already been secured and further announcements are expected soon.
