Europe's ITS industry buoyant, sell-out exhibition suggests

With three months before the 8th European Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems and Services opens its doors for business, from 6-9 June in Lyon, the exhibition has sold out, reflecting the health of the ITS sector and the strength of the event as the international meeting place for the industry.

Exhibitors include players such as Renault Trucks, TomTom, NAVTEQ, Orange, Kapsch, Logica, Continental, as well as many others. Various ITS national associations will also bring with them independent projects that will demonstrate their latest achievements. Numerous European projects will additionally present the fruits of their labor, including the Smart Project, the Sofia Project headed by Nokia and Fiat, and the Spits Project, which is developing an open communication platform for intelligent in-vehicle applications. The European Commission will complete this already long list of exhibitors. Numerous static and live demonstrations will conclude the impressive list of activities; Cybercars, electric vehicles and eco driving experience, including the EC co-funded Freilot pilot truck-driving simulator, constitute merely few examples.

The event has also attracted a number of high-profile sponsors including CS Group, EGIS, Logica, NAVTEQ, Orange, Renault Trucks and Rhöne Alpes Automotive Cluster.

“Having these major partners, exhibitors and sponsors, as well as the list of planned demonstration reinforces the importance of the ITS Europe Exhibition and Congress for the industry,” said ERTICO’s Didier Gorteman. “It shows continued support from the European Commission, the industry, and all major national players, and I hope to see an always more important deployment of ITS systems and services to ensure a safe, clean, secure and efficient mobility of people and goods, providing benefits not only to the people, but also to the community and the economy. The ITS Congress and Exhibition is the perfect place to network and conclude alliances, contracts and partnerships.”

The congress will run alongside the exhibition and is geared towards the theme of
‘Intelligent Mobility – ITS for sustainable transport of persons and goods in urban regions’. The congress will feature over 500 industry figureheads speaking on a variety of topics, including co-modal urban transport management, electromobility, cooperative systems governance and business issues and ITS for adaptive and resilient cities.

This major 2011 event is being organised by ERTICO - ITS EUROPE, together with the active participation of the European Commission, Grand Lyon, Rhöne-Alpes Region, the Lyon Urban Truck and Bus Cluster, the French Ministry of Transport (MEDDTL), ITS
France, the French organizations active within ERTICO-ITS EUROPE, and the European and French Programme Committee.

The 8th European exhibition and congress will provide the ideal opportunity to measure the achievements in ITS in terms of implementation and deployment that have been accomplished since the last time the European ITS Congress took place in Lyon in 2002.

Registration will be available from the 4 April, 2011 at www.itsineurope.com, where you can also find the latest information and updates of the event
