GATSO is expanding in Germany by establishing GATSO Deutschland GmbH. The company says that it is expanding its mission to make a substantial contribution to reducing the number of traffic injuries and fatalities worldwide, by working with the German Road Safety Council on reaching its targets of ‘Vision Zero’. Dietmar Schwalm, who has been appointed as area sales manager at GATSO Deutschland, said, “With the creation of GATSO Deutschland, we are able to offer a superb service to our German customers. As always, we will provide customized traffic enforcement solutions. Being closer to the German customers makes it possible to be more engaged, which results in optimized products for this progressive market.” Edmar van der Weijden, director of sales and marketing at GATSO, noted, “Dietmar has been working in the traffic enforcement industry for over a decade. He has a wealth of experience and understands the needs of our customers. We are proud having him on board and look forward to expanding our presence in the German market.”
In a separate announcement, GATSO’s director of government affairs, Philip Wijers, has been named as chairman of the new International Road Federation (IRF) sub-group: ‘ITS & Road Safety Enforcement’. Rudolf Benedick from Kapsch TrafficCom, has been named vice-chair of the sub-group. The new sub-group is part of the IRF’s ‘Road Safety Group of Experts’, which will contribute to the organization’s efforts to support the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 - 2020. In a statement, the IRF said, “The sub-group will produce substantive outcomes to advance the overall work and outreach of the Group of Experts. As is our hope with the other four sub-groups, the outcomes and deliverables of the ITS & Road Safety Enforcement sub-group will contribute to a growing pool of knowledge in a unique and necessary way.”
