Rennicks MTS to launch products at Traffex

Rennicks MTS, which comprises Rennicks UK and Mobile Traffic Solutions (MTS), will launch two new products at the Traffex show that takes place at the NEC, Birmingham April 16-18. The company will be unveiling the first example of its Tourist Gateway Sign. In order to provide a better sense of place, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Transport (DfT) have worked closely with the UK’s sign manufacturing industry to develop new boundary signs that can incorporate photographic images, which is a new and radical change to the traditional sign design process. Plymouth City Council’s new Tourist Gateway Sign, designed with the DfT’s assistance, is the first of its type to be formally authorized. It combines the existing, recognizable brown tourist sign element with a full color photo, digitally printed onto Rennicks’ Nikkalite Ultralite retro-reflective sheeting and completed by Nordis Signs.

The company will also be launching the new MTS iWicket digital LED sign, which has been developed in accordance with the Highways Agency’s (HA) ‘Aiming for Zero’ Road Worker Safety Forum (RoWSaF) Strategy. The iWicket meets new guidelines that states traffic management should be put in place before positioning signs in the central reservation, to avoid road workers having to cross live lanes of traffic. This is due to the increased health and safety risk created by large volumes of traffic. Neil Newsome, sales director for MTS, explained, “Temporary signs situated in the central reservation, warning of lane closures, had previously been created using manually changed temporary traffic signs. We identified an opportunity to develop a portable digital sign, which could be used in the same way as the current product, but would be remotely operated and solar re-charged battery powered, and available to hire or buy.”
