Net tightens on license plate fraud

A new collaboration means the days of criminals avoiding detection by tampering with license plates could be numbered. New Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, developed by electronic tolling experts at San Diego’s Neology, provides vehicle identification beyond the traditional embossed legend carried by law. Now they have announced they are to collaborate with German supplier of vehicle registration plate technology, identification and registration systems, Erich Utsch AG, to develop and market their systems jointly in undisclosed countries.

The agreement aims to combine Neology’s experience in Electronic Vehicle Registration (EVR) products and services with Utsch’s license plate technology and customer relationships in more than 130 countries worldwide. It marks a major first step towards wider deployment of passive RFID technology in vehicle identification.
