Highways technology goes ‘off-road’

A leading provider of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is expanding its market by providing a technology developed for ‘on-road’ use to ‘off-road’ applications in the field of agronomy; the use of science and technology in agriculture. Iteris, which provides intelligent traffic management and weather information systems, has entered into an agreement with Agrian, a leading provider of widely adopted agri-data tracking and information systems, in order to provide actionable weather information for precision agronomy. Under the new agreement, the company’s ClearPath Ag high-resolution, precision weather analytics will be integrated into Agrian’s suite of precision agronomy products. Agrian customers, from individual growers to the largest agri-food conglomerates, crop consultants, applicators, and retailers, will have access to Iteris’ high-resolution field-level precision weather information for technology driven farming, compliance reporting, and optimization of the agri-food supply chain.

The Iteris ClearPath range of traffic and weather diagnostic systems was originally developed to provide highways authorities and Departments of Transportation (DOTs) with detailed predictive meteorological information, in order to allow them to better manage road networks. ClearPath Ag is a part of the suite of weather-related information diagnostics and systems, providing actionable information for both ‘on-road’ and ‘off-road’ applications, with a range of content analytics suitable for uses in markets such as traffic, agriculture, financial, facilities, utilities, and broadcasting. The technology can now provide agriculture-based businesses with the actionable field-level weather information needed for data-driven decision-making of efficient crop management, risk reduction and mitigation, resource allocation, and distribution through the on-road supply chain.

“By licensing our ClearPath Ag technology to Agrian, we are able to provide actionable information that should enhance decision-making for agribusinesses, crop consultants, and producers to maximize crop yields, minimize risk, and improve compliance reporting,” said Abbas Mohaddes, president and CEO of Iteris. “This agreement further confirms our commitment to expanding analytics services from ‘on-road’ to ‘off-road’ by penetrating new markets with our ClearPath products. We believe this relationship is a testament of our strategy to properly align our services with complementary adjacent markets.”
