ITS UK backs inaugural Future Logistics Summit & Expo

The UK association for the promotion of intelligent transport systems has confirmed its support for a new trade show and conference next spring which will highlight the digitization of logistics, connected freight, and intelligent transport systems.

The new Future Logistics Summit & Expo will be held at the Manchester Central Convention Complex in the UK from Feb 28-Mar 1, 2018. The event is organized by GB Media & Events Ltd, which also runs the successful Industry 4.0 Summit & Factories of the Future Expo that is concerned with the digital transformation of manufacturing, often referred to as industry 4.0, or the 4th Industrial Revolution.

By co-locating the 2018 Industry 4.0 Summit & Factories of the Future Expo with the Future Logistics Summit & Expo, the organizers will enable visitors to have access to the complete modern digital supply chain, from design and development, through to manufacturing and delivery in one place.

“We are delighted to support the Future Logistics Summit and encourage all our members, not just the ones involved in our Freight Interest Group, to take part,” said Jennie Martin, ITS UK’s secretary general. “We look forward to meeting members and other parts of the industry in Manchester next spring. Freight and logistics have always seemed to be the Cinderella of the transport industry, with politicians and planners often prioritizing the movement of people over the movement of goods. However, for society to function properly, both need to be as efficient as possible, and therefore anything that technology can do to improve productivity is welcome.”

Event director Gary Gilmour explained, “Digitization is creating huge changes in manufacturing, as well as opportunities for companies to become more efficient. The same is true for the logistics industry and our event will look to address the challenges, threats and opportunities that the digitization of logistics will bring.

“With particular focus on connected freight for air, land and sea, as well as intelligent transport systems, and by co-locating with our manufacturing events, we expect to attract over 2,000 attendees from the manufacturing and logistics communities. It’s the perfect opportunity for businesses to get an understanding of the future supply chain, from design and development, through to manufacturing and delivery.”
