Vitronic’s speed enforcement trailer gets type approval in the Netherlands

German machine vision systems developer Vitronic has received type approval in the Netherlands for its semi-stationary traffic enforcement system.

Vitronic’s Enforcement Trailer certification was issued by Netherlands Measurement Institute (NMi), an independent specialist in testing and certifying within metrology. The Enforcement Trailer is a semi-stationary system that allows unmanned traffic enforcement at temporary risk areas, such as work zones or where there is no infrastructure for permanent surveillance. It is fully automatic and runs for more than five days without recharging. The Trailer’s type approval follows the certification of Vitronic’s PoliScan FM1, a lidar-based multi-lane speed measurement system, earlier this year. Both systems can now be deployed by authorities in the Netherlands to enforce compliance to legal speed limits and help increase road safety.

Currently on trial in Australia, the autonomous Enforcement Trailer is equipped with Vitronic’s PoliScan Speed lidar technology that enables simultaneous measurement of all vehicles across multiple lanes. An integrated modem transfers the encrypted case data wirelessly and enables remote access to the measuring system.

The Enforcement Trailer can be transported by any vehicle that has a tow bar, and also has its own remote-controlled drive for precise positioning at the enforcement site. During operation, the trailer can be fully lowered to ground level. When lowered, the wheels disappear into the armor-plated exterior, making unauthorized movement or transportation of the speed enforcement unit much more difficult. An alarm system additionally protects the measuring technology against vandalism.

To take advantage of its technology’s new type approval, Vitronic is expanding its partnership with the Austrian Swarco Group, which began in 2012 and has seen the two companies operating successfully together in the traffic enforcement sector in Scandinavia. Vitronic and Swarco Nederland will now be expanding their joint network of distribution and service centers. Based in Lijnden, near Amsterdam, Swarco Nederland will be responsible for sales and service of Vitronic’s PoliScan products in the Netherlands, offering the country’s national agencies and private service providers systems for speed and red light enforcement, and automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) equipment.

Boris Wagner, director of sales for Vitronic’s Traffic Technology Division, commented, “We are pleased to have found a long-standing and reliable partner with Swarco Nederland and look forward to further joint collaborations with Swarco.”

Vitronic has also announced the opening of its new wholly-owned subsidiary in France. Located in Rungis, in the southern Paris metropolitan area, Vitronic France is a service and sales office, serving the French and Southern European markets.

New executive director Gilles Moussion will lead the subsidiary, which will focus on expanding and strengthening Vitronic’s three strategic business sectors: logistics, industrial automation, and traffic technology. During 2018, Vitronic France will gradually build up its capacity to suit customers in all three business sectors, and will carry out all business operations in the territory.
