At its annual General Assembly held in Brussels, Belgium, ERTICO – ITS Europe elected Angelos Amditis, research director at the Greek Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), as the new chairman of the organization’s supervisory board.

Amditis takes over from Cees de Wijs, the CEO of traffic technology supplier Dynniq, who has completed three successful years as chairman of the board. Addressing the Assembly, Amditis delivered an inspiring speech, in which he particularly stressed the importance of transparency and cooperation, and thanked all parties from the 121 Partner organizations who have been deeply involved in shaping ERTICO’s new strategy, and will continue to provide progress and innovation in the field of mobility.

“I thank Cees de Wijs for his leadership of the supervisory board and his exceptional work for the ERTICO Partnership. We worked together and with the rest of the members of the supervisory board the last years to realize ERTICO’s vision and strategy,” said Amditis.

“I will pursue close collaboration with all ERTICO partners and the ERTICO Office in order to strengthen even more the ERTICO Partnership, and in order to maintain, and even enhance if possible, its role as a key organization for defining and developing further the future of transport, taking into account always, the interests of all its sectors.”

Following the submission in March 2018 of different cities to host the ITS European Congress 2020, the ERTICO supervisory board indicated the city of Lisbon in Portugal as its ‘preferred choice’ candidate, following the recommendation of the European Selection Committee, which reviewed all the bid proposals.

The final negotiation process with the City of Lisbon authorities will now start, and, if successful, the final appointment will be announced during the ITS World Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, in September.

ERTICO also held its annual Think Tank event, which challenges and debates the most recent innovations in the mobility sector. This year’s Think Tank brought together high-level experts, policymakers and innovators from the European ITS industry to discuss the value of access to data in the quest for multi-modality.

The first discussion revolved around the reinvention of mobility and the necessity to change industry, with a panel composed of innovative startups. The second panel was composed of big names in industry who debated the evolution of shared mobility.
