Roadstar.ai selects Renovo’s AWare OS for its full stack automated driving system

Roadstar.ai, a China and USA-based startup developing SAE Level 4 autonomous technologies, has selected AWare, Renovo’s production-grade operating system (OS) for automated mobility, as its development and commercialization platform.

Roadstar gains access to the ecosystem of AWare-compatible vehicles, sensors and other third-party technologies and services that interact with its Automated Driving Systems (ADS). By providing automotive safety infrastructure and a full microservice abstraction of the vehicle, compute and sensors, AWare enables Roadstar to focus on its core HeteroSync and DeepFusion ADS technologies, while safely, reliably and cost-effectively interfacing with third-party technologies and services across a wide range of vehicles.

Roadstar’s first AWare-powered vehicle model is the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan. The company plans to produce 1,500 autonomous cars in 2020, covering the central business districts of first-tier cities in China.

The Renovo AWare OS provides a vehicle-independent abstraction API and range of microservices that offers developers a range of technologies necessary for commercial automated mobility services, and to write applications that can be deployed at scale. AWare has the necessary performance to run today’s most demanding ADS, as well as the safety and security features required for automotive validation.

AWare is a trusted layer in functionally safe architectures and features multiple computational domains including low-level safety controllers. Renovo is accelerating the commercial realization of automated mobility on demand (AMoD) and automated Mobility as a Service (AMaaS) at scale by enabling AWare compatible technologies and services across the widest range of vehicles, fleets and the cloud.

Despite a highly competitive and fast-moving market, Roadstar.ai has already achieved several leading benchmarks in the industry, winning several awards for its technology. In May, the company announced it had raised US$128m in series A financing to support and accelerate the development and deployment of its automated driving technology.

Roadstar has been testing its automated vehicle technology on public roads under its California DMV Autonomous Vehicle Testing permit in the USA and on public roads in Shenzhen, China.

“Our mission is to enable fully autonomous robo-taxi services for an intelligent, efficient and safe mobility experience,” said Dr Xianqiao Tong, founder and CEO of Roadstar.ai. “We selected Renovo’s AWare OS for development and as a commercialization platform because of its technical capabilities, the company’s focus on deployment at scale, access to the AWare ecosystem, and as a go-to-market path for our ADS with North American and European fleet operators.”

Chris Heiser, Renovo’s CEO and co-founder, commented, “Roadstar.ai is a pioneering creator of full stack Level 4 automated driving technology, and we are delighted they have selected AWare as a development and production platform. Both companies share a common focus on taking automated mobility to scale in a safe and economical manner as quickly as possible.”
