Transportation Engineer 1 – Two Positions – Washington State Department of Transportation

Kelso and Chehalis, Washington, USA

Salary: US$50,292.00-US$65,916.00 annually

The opportunity: 
Washington State Department Of Transportation (WSDOT) has entry-level engineering opportunities in Kelso and Chehalis for industrious engineering professionals who want to participate in supporting important infrastructure projects in Washington State. Your work will be within a dynamic design/construction engineering office and will be pivotal in meeting the goals of this agency. Work assignments are designed with professional development in mind.

Depending on your assignment your work may be as listed:
Develop and check engineering design calculations and drawings. 
Assist the design team leader with development of transportation projects.
Assist in inspection of construction activities including materials inspection and testing.
Assist with design and development of plans, specifications, and estimates.
Utilize personal computers for CAD and other design software, and office software (Word, Excel, etc.).
Review contractor submittals for contract compliance.
Coordinate, review and assess contract submittals.
Perform a variety of project development support tasks.
Document construction inspections to ensure projects are in conformance with contract plans, permits and regulations.
Perform various survey tasks such as operating survey equipment, setting points and stakes, calculating distances and angles, and collecting data.
Communicate orally and in writing with contractors, designers, other team members, support offices, and the public.
An ideal candidate will have some of the following:

Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT).
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions, traverse uneven terrain, and work in confined spaces.
Ability to adjust work schedule to coincide with contractor's activities, including working long hours and nights.
Have a valid driver's license and be able to safely travel from site to site to provide field support.
The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
