Kapsch TrafficCom is seeking a Systems Engineer for its office in Corona, California.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development and integration of electronic tolling hardware and system-level solutions for toll roads.

During project design, the Systems Engineer performs: site surveys and component and system testing, and develops and maintains the bill of materials, coordinates with civil and electrical engineers on system and roadway design, and creates design/drawing packages.

The System Engineer is also responsible for coordinating with vendors and subcontractors on delivery schedules, assisting in system installation and system integration, and generating proposal technical responses. They work closely with the Management, Database and Software teams and Installation and Maintenance teams during all phases of the project from design to implementation to maintenance and upgrades.
In this role the Systems Engineer will:

• Evaluate electrical systems, products, and components by designing and conducting research; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
• Confirm systems’ and components' capabilities by designing testing methods and testing properties.     
• Develop tolling design package by reviewing customer requirements.
• Develop processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and maintenance of tolling systems.
• Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities. 
• Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
• Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
• Maintain product data base.

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and have at least 7+ years of experience. Candidates should have knowledge of electrical panels, conduit fill, and power systems. A PE license is required.

Candidates for this role should be aware that there may be an estimated 10% travel.

The Kapsch portfolio of Advanced Traffic Management (ATM) services includes over 40 systems that integrate ATMS, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and automation for collecting real-time traffic and facilities-related data from highways, managed lanes, bridges, and tunnels. This information is delivered to a traffic management center where it is processed for actionable use by road operators, government authorities, and road users. Its tolling solutions span all-electronic toll collection in free-flow traffic, automated payment at conventional toll plazas, and city tolling.

Its solutions comprise radio communication via micro waves, vehicle tracking via GNSS (global navigation satellite systems), ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) video tolling, and vehicle classification via video and laser sensors LVDC (laser vehicle detection and classification). Its systems can manage operations for areas ranging from individual roads to entire regions, and can be modified for distance-based or time-based charging.

Its combined intelligent mobility solutions are used to aid traffic management personnel in making critical decisions during emergency response situations, as well as for providing real-time traffic information to road users from the highway to the city.
