Software Architect – Kapsch TrafficCom

Kaspch TrafficCom is seeking a Software Architect for its office in Duluth, Georgia, USA.  The Software Architect will provide proper oversight and fulfill the software architect mission. This position is a critical part of Kapsch’s strategy to build/maintain quality into the product, and essential for success on its projects.

Kapsch TrafficCom is a world leader in advanced traffic management systems (ATMS). It strives to keep its product on the leading edge of technology and performance. Currently, it is deploying the largest ATMS in the world at this time and spends millions of dollars each year on product improvements to implement its vision of continuous technology refresh and evolutionary improvement.

In this role the Software Architect will:
• Investigate new software technologies to stay current with latest software architectural developments and determine applicability to Kapsch’s advanced traffic management system product.
• Develop and maintain the software architectural roadmap containing the architectural vision for products and activities, while continuously evolving Kapsch’s state-of-the-art product.
• Continuous evaluation of third party software tools with recommended updates, including products such as Spring Framework, Java (Kapsch plans to migrate from Java 8 to Java 9 in the near term).
• Develop and maintain architectural presentation and high-level documentation.
• Participate in requirements, design, and code reviews that have architectural relevance.
• Obtain input from Business Development personnel, RFP reviews and Product Manager to determine architectural demands of our target markets.
• Define the top-level components of the software system and the interfaces between those systems (e.g. Registry, Comm, Event/Alarm, History, Signs, CCTV, Graphics, Data Warehousing, Failover, etc.).
• Participate as permanent member of the Product Management Board.
• Provide technical mentoring to team members regarding architecture.

Qualified candidates will possess a BS in Computer Science or Engineering (MS preferred) and 10+ years of experience in software development with an emphasis on Java technologies.  Experience in C#, .net and/or C++ is a plus.

Core competencies:
Extensive Java knowledge and experience including threading, synchronization, concurrency classes, refection, RMI, and JNI.
Experience using design patterns, Spring Framework, Java Web Services, JSTL (or equivalent), REST Web Services, JSON, VueJS, REACT.
Expert in software development including agile processes (Scrum preferred).
Knowledge of virtualization concepts and products.
Knowledgeable in latest software development technologies (i.e. Hazelcast, mobile app development, HTML 5 UI development using Java).
Excellent communication skills including customer presentation of software architectural concepts and implementations.
Experience in both Linux and Windows software development.
Experience in database design and deployment with PostgreSQL knowledge/experience preferred.

The Kapsch portfolio of advanced traffic management (ATM) services includes over 40 systems that integrate ATMS, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and automation for collecting real-time traffic and facilities-related data from highways, managed lanes, bridges, and tunnels.
