The team behind GM's new personal mobility brand Maven is 'focused on changing the world'

General Motors has signalled its determination to be at the forefront of next-generation car-ownership models, based around the sharing economy, with the launch of is Maven smartphone-based mobility system. The technology is described as a gateway to a variety of on-demand mobility solutions. "Today we are entering into a whole new era of unprecedented change," says Peter Kosak, executive director of urban mobility at General Motors. "This is the most exciting time ever in the automobile industry. In my 30 years at General Motors I have never seen a period of greater change and possibility." New York City completes 80 Vision Zero projects

This new video from NYC DOT shows just a handful of the 80 Vision Zero projects that were completed in NYC in 2015. Extensive traffic simulation and modeling went into the planning of these upgrades, which help to protect vulnerable road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians, as well as calming vehicle traffic to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents.

Autonomous cars will turn roads into communication superhighways

This new video from Volvo and Ericsson illustrates how autonomous vehicles will give drivers more free time behind the wheel, creating the need for ever-greater mobile bandwidth along highways as well as requiring vehicles to automatically plan more efficient ways to utilise that bandwidth.

New FHWA tests are aiming to set standards for connected vehicles

This new video, from the US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), gives detail of the tests it is currently conducting of cooperative adaptive cruise control systems, on a naval base in Pennsylvania. The system being trialed, which uses connected vehicle technology to make adaptive cruise control more responsive than ever, could have a host of benefits for road users, including reducing fuel consumption, improving safety and cutting congestion. The FHWA is planning to share the results of its tests with the entire auto industry, as well as state departments of transportation, in an effort to set common standards and speed the adoption of such technologies.
