The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is now live with its Statewide Roadside Unit Health Monitoring System in partnership with Kyra Solutions (IntelliRoad division).
Providing accurate real-time V2X information allows drivers to make safe and informed decisions. But to maintain such services it is necessary to monitor the health of the roadside units (RSUs) that provide such services. The first step is to bring the monitoring of roadside infrastructure into one centralized location.
Kyra has provided FDOT a turnkey solution that enables the continuous monitoring of the health and security status of all roadside units deployed within Florida. This new system is an innovative component of FDOT’s smart infrastructure and connected vehicle (CV) program that provides safety and congestion solutions to the traveling public.
Kyra’s IntelliRoad division is delivering this next generation of roadway management software through its smart infrastructure and traffic management platform IntelliConnect. It provides turnkey solutions that future-proof a government’s transportation system while leveraging their existing infrastructure investments.
Kyra worked with multiple roadside unit vendors and third-party application systems providers (like SunGuide) to deliver the system on a single platform. Kyra used a module of IntelliConnect to integrate, configure, monitor, and manage all roadside units across the state.
This system makes available the real-time status of all enrolled roadside units immediately for active viewing and generates automated alerts when the system or device status changes outside the configured parameters. The system also interfaces with third party software to provide the security certificate needed for each unit and monitors for their compliance.
The platform also interfaces the Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) Data Exchange Platform to send RSU data. Kyra continues to provide FDOT with ongoing integration and engineering support.
