Kapsch TrafficCom has taken a big step towards the completion of an urban congestion charging project on behalf of Swedish traffic authority, Trafikverket.
The rollout phase and the correspondant testing of the Gothenburg congestion charging project are complete, with Kapsch TrafficCom now managing all charging and control points in the city.
The company has replaced the previous charging point system, working mainly at night and on weekends and bank holidays to ensure undisturbed system functionality. Every charging point has its own portal with cameras and other technical equipment that required to be replaced as part of the system renewal.
“After months of hard work, we are proud to reach this milestone. Our system now covers 100% of tolled passages in the city, meaning that we are processing over 150 million passages per year,” says Carolin Treichl, EVP EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom.
Upon finalization, Kapsch TrafficCom will oversee operations and maintenance for the next 10 years, with two years of optional extension. Entering the operations phase, the new congestion charging system covers the entirety of the city center, allowing for automatic vehicle identification and enabling the city to manage urban congestion proactively and successfully.
