TTi editor Tom Stone will be in conversation with experts from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Kapsch TrafficCom, in a live webinar on Wednesday May 22, sharing insights from the Irish Government’s pilot program for Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), an initiative aimed at creating safer and more intelligent roadways.
The announcement was made as Kapsch showcases its latest solutions at the world’s largest event dedicated to road transportation professionals Intertraffic Amsterdam, which is taking place at the RAI Exhibition Center (April 16-19).
The webinar, titled The journey to a connected future: Implementing C-ITS with TII, will be held at 4:00pm CET and will discuss how the C-ITS pilot helps improve the effectiveness of the Irish road network, the challenges that were overcome, the general benefits of C-ITS, C-ITS use cases from across the globe and lessons learned from real-life urban and interurban deployments.
Traffic Technology International’s editor, Tom Stone, will host the webinar, which will also feature Kapsch TrafficCom’s vice president of connected vehicle services, Steve Sprouffske, and TII’s senior engineer for ITS, David Laoide-Kemp.
The C-ITS pilot is part of the Network Intelligence and Management System (NIMS) project in Ireland – the implementation of which has been entrusted by TII to Kapsch TrafficCom.
Through NIMS, TII is seeking to manage traffic flow, optimize the performance of the motorway network, ensure the efficient dissemination of traffic and network performance information, and coordinate incident response capabilities more effectively.
At the heart of the pilot program lies C-ITS technology, which enables vehicles to seamlessly communicate with each other, roadside infrastructure and traffic control centers. This allows the real-time transmission of safety alerts and advisory messages directly to drivers.
Safety notifications, including collision and congestion warnings, roadwork updates, and weather conditions, will be sent through smartphone apps or tablets connected to roadside units installed on the M50 and M1 motorways in Dublin.
