The city of Athens is trialing a ‘smart parking’ system, which will see the deployment of wireless availabilty-sensors on streets in the Greek capital. UK-based provider of car parking technology and parking management services, Smart Parking, is partnering with the Greek company, CiTRO Technology Solutions, to trial its SmartPark space-finding system in the city. The Athens trial includes the installation of 43 V2 SmartEye infrared sensors alongside SmartLink zone controllers on Skoufa Avenue in central Athens. The trial is part of a study that is being undertaken by the City of Athens’ IT company, DAEM, to evaluate parking bay sensor technologies as part of a new automated ‘smart’ operations system for the Municipality’s controlled parking network. DAEM is a pioneer in the application of new technologies that offer reliable services to the Greek local government sector.
Smart Parking’s EMEA-region technology sales manager, Jim Short, said, “We are delighted to have been selected to trial SmartPark in Athens, and we look forward to demonstrating the value of the system within the capital. The SmartEye sensors will provide never-seen-before kerbside management information and assist in fair use of the limited parking resource here in central Athens. Analysis of this management information will help long term strategy in the required number of disabled, reserved, public and resident bays. Future integration will also allow for guidance via our Smartphone App and on-street VMS (Variable Message Sign) display boards.”
