One of the leaders in connected car services and transportation analytics, Inrix, has launched an industry-first navigation technology that combines real-time traffic, incident and parking data to guide drivers along the fastest route to find available parking.
Inrix’s new Parking Path feature helps auto makers simplify the last mile for drivers by incorporating parking into the entire navigation experience, saving customers time and frustration.
Traditional car navigation relies on using real-time traffic information to guide drivers along the fastest route to their destination, and while this is efficient at getting them from point A to point B, it neglects the final part of their journey and what to do with the vehicle on arrival.
Drivers typically do not start searching for parking until they arrive at their destination, circling the block several times, hoping a parking space becomes available. Drivers naturally want to park closest to their destination, causing unnecessary traffic in the area while they search for a space, which also leads to an uneven distribution of parking availability.
A recent Inrix survey found that 90% of drivers want the ability to navigate directly to a parking space, and more than 75% want a parking solution integrated in their in-car routing system and/or navigation application.
Inrix says that by using its new Parking Path system, drivers will save time and money and reduce frustration by being guided along the fastest path to find parking, minimizing both drive-time and walk-time. The Parking Path system offers:
• Reduced parking search time, as it enables drivers to take the fastest route to find available on-and off-street parking;
• Optimized routing that will help to minimize both drive-time and walk-time;
• Simplify parking by giving drivers the ability to find the best options based on price, proximity and availability.
By combining some of the industry’s leading traffic, incident and parking availability data with machine learning and predictive analytics, Inrix is able to efficiently guide drivers to open parking spots.
When drivers are approaching their final destination, the Parking Path system pulls real-time data to calculate the best path to take to find parking that minimizes both drive time, walk time, and the cost of parking.
Drivers will also have a more accurate estimated time of arrival (ETA) that incorporates parking search time. Inrix Parking Path is available immediately to auto makers and app developers in select cities in the USA, Germany, the UK, France, Spain, Netherlands, Russia, and Norway, with more cities/countries planned to be supported in the near future.Â
