LYT, a provider of intelligent connected traffic technology, has, in partnership with Transpo Group, signed a new agreement with the City of Tempe, Arizona, and the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), for a pilot of LYT.emergency, the company’s emergency vehicle pre-emption (EVP) solution.
Through MAG’s Emerging Technology Program, the pilot will initially be launched for the corridor along South Kyrene Road and continuing onto West Baseline Road.
LYT.emergency will be deployed in collaboration with Safety Cloud by HAAS Alert. This collaboration aims to improve emergency vehicle safety and travel times for first responders traveling to local emergency facilities by intelligently adjusting traffic lights to clear traffic along their path.
LYT’s emergency pre-emption solution enables traffic signals to adjust, based on real-time congestion, and traffic in advance of approaching emergency vehicles. This is made possible because Tempe Fire Department vehicles are equipped with HAAS Alert devices, which provide the necessary response information for LYT’s green light technology to clear the path.
HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud collision prevention solution delivers real-time notifications from active emergency vehicles to nearby motorists over cellular networks. Safety Cloud digital alerts are sent directly to in-vehicle systems such as uConnect (2018 and newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles) and navigation applications such as Waze, giving drivers more time to slow down and clear roadways.
Emergency vehicles equipped with Safety Cloud will now be able to communicate directly with LYT’s EVP solution. This partnership will enable public safety fleets to deploy true pre-emption capabilities in any vehicle, making emergency response and roadways safer throughout Tempe.
Josie Slaughter, HAAS Alert’s head of product, says partnering with LYT is a natural continuation of HAAS Alert’s overall mission: “LYT is a leader in connected traffic technology. This partnership is aiding us in our mission to save lives and transform road safety.”
LYT’s intelligent connected traffic technology solutions create safe and innovative mobility systems and services for smart cities. Traffic agencies across the US and Canada are leveraging LYT.emergency, which grants a consistent and reliable green light for every emergency vehicle. The solution harnesses the power of a single secure edge device installed in traffic management centers that enables emergency vehicles to speak directly to networked traffic signals in cities through the LYT.speed cloud platform.
“A reliable emergency vehicle pre-emption solution plays a critical role in protecting Tempe,” added Tim Menard, CEO and founder of LYT. “Implementing a state-of-the-art pre-emption system is not just a technological upgrade; it’s a commitment to the livelihood of this community. By clearing the path for first responders, we’re improving critical response times. This is not just a matter of convenience; it’s a matter of life and death.”
