ERTICO–ITS Europe has released the second edition of its ITS Market Radar Report, designed to assess the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) industry across Europe. Developed in partnership with EY, the report examines key developments across public authorities, research, and end users.
“The ERTICO partnership remains committed to advancing Intelligent Transport Systems and services,” says ERTICO CEO Joost Vantomme. “As part of our thought leadership and advocacy efforts, we continuously assess trends, challenges, barriers, and opportunities in our sector.”
In the report artificial intelligence and machine learning emerge as top technological trends, particularly in research organizations, while public authorities are increasingly focused on advancing automated transport systems.
Key highlights include:
- A projected increase in ITS-related employment over the next five years, though both public and research sectors report challenges in finding qualified personnel
- Growing emphasis on sustainable mobility solutions and connected vehicle technologies
- Significant funding through EU programs, with €208 million supporting 27 CCAM projects since 2021
- Identified challenges including budget constraints, data accessibility, and the need for greater public awareness
The report also highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration, with ERTICO facilitating partnerships between eight different sectors to ensure seamless service integration and data exchange.
This second edition builds upon the foundation laid by the first report published in January 2024, which focused on service providers and traffic and transport industry sectors. “Our journey continues with a focus on European leadership in smart and sustainable mobility,” says Vantomme.
The ITS Market Radar Report 2025 serves as a useful resource for mobility-sector stakeholders, offering insights into market trends, employment outlook, and strategic partnerships shaping the future of ITS in Europe.
