A competition that gives USA and Canadian traffic agencies the opportunity to win a free deployment of an ATC cabinet has had a new prize added, with the winner also receiving a state-of-the-art system for actuated intersection control.
Developer and supplier of advanced transportation systems and equipment, McCain Inc, which is currently in the process of being acquired by the Austrian Swarco Group, has announced that Gridsmart Technologies Inc (formerly Aldis) has donated a camera and GS2 processor to McCain’s Backpack Cabinet Giveaway. The competition was launched following the recent release of McCain’s Backpack, the company’s newest and smallest ATC cabinet, which stands just 25 inches (63.5cm) tall, and weighs under 55 lb (25kg). The cabinet’s unique design features include a combo input/output (I/O) assembly that offers unrivaled configuration flexibility, and swing-out assemblies that provide easy access to field wires at the rear of the cabinet. Its small proportions allow traffic agencies to make discrete deployments in any urban environment.
Through this unique partnership with Gridsmart, developer of the world’s only single-camera system for intersection actuation and traffic data collection, the winning agency will now also receive a complete Gridsmart system, including the company’s iconic Bell camera and GS2 processor. The rugged GS2 unit works with the Gridsmart camera to actuate intersections and gather important traffic data that can be used to adjust signal timing and traffic flow strategies in real time. The Bell camera delivers the industry’s only horizon-to-horizon view that includes the center of the intersection, where vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians cross paths. Gridsmart uses vision-based tracking with a 360º fisheye camera, allowing the system to track vehicles into and out of the intersection and provide true turning movement counts. Interested agencies can enter McCain’s Giveaway competition to win the complete intersection control system via an online form until September 23, with the winner to be announced in October. Multiple entries per agency are encouraged; however, only one entry per person is permitted.
