The world’s leading supplier of innovative video surveillance products and systems, Hikvision, has announced the integration of its ALPR (automatic license plate recognition) cameras with software from Visec, creator of the Visec surveillance software suite and the multi-jurisdictional LPR Cloud Network in South Africa (LPR CLOUD SA).
The Hikvision integration allows direct communication between the Chinese company’s cameras and Visec’s platform, eliminating costly hardware including computer or server, monitor and switches. The result will provide a standalone LPR system engineered for easy capturing, analysis and recording of license plates. The solution will be mainly used for entrance/exit management in commercial and residential areas, such as office building and shopping malls; and in government projects for ALPR solutions, such as assisting local police with traffic enforcement and operations.
As a member of Hikvision’s Smart camera family, the DS-2CD4A26FWD-IZS/P ALPR cameras efficiently recognize and analyze vehicle license plate numbers, while boasting Smart features including Smart Codec, Smart VQD and Smart Detection for intrusion and line-crossing detection applications. It also features low light illumination, enabling the cameras to capture clear number plates even in challenging lighting conditions.
The Visec standalone LPR camera module is powered using ‘Edge’ technology, which allows software developers to write cameras apps, in a similar fashion to a cell phone running an application. The Visec LPR app will run standalone, using the Hikvision camera’s processor, memory and supporting software.
We have strategically collaborated with Hikvision to explore an efficient video surveillance solution. This cost-effective architecture allows us to significantly extend the coverage of the LPR CLOUD SA to reach an even wider customer base,” explained Gary Scagell, CEO of Visec. “The solution just needs a regular internet connection, without the cumbersome hardware, which greatly helps our clients save on their overall installation costs. We’re confident that this technology will expand the market.”
The South African company’s senior VP of sales and marketing at its Visec USA Division, Jason K Bordbar, commented, “We have the ability to identify specific areas of growth in viable niche markets, while ensuring our clients have the most advanced solutions. Now we are able to offer a total cost ownership for the Visec Cloud LPR at a 75% price reduction for typical deployments thanks to this new camera technology. Such a drop in price point will enable us to implement Cloud-based LPR solutions more effectively across emerging markets.”
