One of the USA’s leading suppliers of applied informatics systems for the transportation industry, Iteris Inc., is expanding its commercial vehicle operations (CVO) platform with the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) as the first customer to deploy the new system.
Iteris is upgrading the facilities offered by its CVO platform, which is delivered on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) basis, to include a new international registration plan (IRP) and international fuel tax agreement (IFTA) compliance service, in addition to the CVO platform’s current commercial vehicle screening, enforcement and data aggregation solutions. The new IRP/IFTA service improves apportionment and licensing of vehicle registration and fuel taxes for commercial vehicles.
Iteris is the largest provider of commercial vehicle enforcement and screening systems across the USA, providing its Commercial Vehicle Information Exchange Window (CVIEWPlus) system to 22 customers, 15 of which also use the company’s Inspect system; a federally-compliant tool for performing roadside inspections of heavy trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles.
Iteris has also announced that it has been awarded a contract in excess of US$3m over 36 months with Iowa DOT, which will become the first agency to make use of the new IRP/IFTA services. The company will also provide Iowa DOT with its CVIEWPlus commercial vehicle screening and data aggregation systems, to facilitate motor carrier services throughout the state. CVIEWPlus and its related data services will aggregate and automate Iowa DOT’s motor carrier screening process, saving time reviewing many different applications, and focusing on the accuracy of data that is shared nationally. The new international services will also help Iowa DOT with data collection of IRP and IFTA transactions, while also enhancing the motor carrier user experience.
Created by Iteris, CVIEWPlus provides a low cost and efficient information foundation for support of state-based commercial vehicle operations. The system has been certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) as being compliant with the agency’s CVISN (Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks) and has been deployed in numerous states. As well as being a database, CVIEWPlus is a cost-effective system designed to obtain, store, and distribute intrastate and interstate commercial vehicle information. This information is made available to local state agencies, other jurisdictions, federal authorities and other users. The easy-to-use graphical user interface provides data administrators with a simple way to establish and maintain system preferences. Options include selectable SAFER (safety and fitness electronic records) downloads and uploads, with users able to specify data to be processed and the schedule for processing including immediate ‘on demand’ updates.
“We are excited to announce the expansion of our CVO platform, which now offers a more complete solution to a wider serviceable market with the addition of our international registration and fuel tax compliance service,” said Ramin Massoumi, senior vice president and general manager of transportation systems at Iteris. “The new agreement with Iowa DOT, which represents the first deployment of this new IRP/IFTA service, demonstrates the commitment of state agencies across the USA to adopt smart technology to improve their transportation networks.”
