A new outdoor-ready camera has been released, which has been specially designed for video surveillance on the interior or exterior of buses, trams, trucks cars and other ‘rugged environment’ vehicles. The new camera is from Swedish company, Axis Communications, which is currently under a SKr23.6bn (US$2.8bn) takeover bid from the Canon Corporation. The Axis P3905-RE is an outdoor-ready addition to the company’s P39-R Network Camera Series family of compact, rugged and discreet cameras. The P3905-RE Network Camera is designed to be mounted on the exterior of a vehicle, increasing safety onboard and to simplify incident investigations. The camera can be used for rearview surveillance alongside the vehicle outer surface, or down mounted over a door. It could also be used as a forward-facing camera. The camera has a variety of potential applications, including: pedestrian and cyclist safety systems; linking with lane-keeping assistance functions; truck security; and safety and parking assistance when the vehicle is reversing. The P3905-RE has passed the demanding IP6K9K tests, and withstands tough conditions, such as vibrations, shocks, bumps and temperature fluctuations, as well as the normal maintenance of a vehicle, including pressure washing.
The P3905-RE comes with a 6mm lens that provides a 55-degree horizontal field of view optimized for the typical use of surveillance alongside a vehicle. If a wider field of view is required, the housing also allows customers to change to a 3.6mm lens offering an 87-degree horizontal field of view. The new outdoor housing is offered as a separate accessory to the P3904-R and P3905-R models that come with the 3.6mm lens at delivery. All of the Axis P39-R cameras are available with either a male RJ45 connector or a rugged M12 connector. The cameras provide a pixel counter for verifying that the pixel resolution of an object meets specific requirements. The new P3905-RE and the T96B05 outdoor housing are available through the company’s normal distribution channels.
“Our P39-R series is specially designed for onboard use in a variety of vehicles. It delivers high image quality in HDTV resolution, and edge storage for demanding customer requirements,” said Erik Frännlid, director of product management at Axis. “The cameras also feature an active tampering alarm function for the detection of interference attempts, such as blocking or spray-painting. Our new P3905-RE Network Camera is a natural extension in this series. It comes ready in a rugged outdoor housing and offers a cost-efficient and reliable installation. It is ideal for buses, trams, trucks and emergency vehicles. Our Corridor Format that gives a vertical image format is naturally supported, and is perfect for these kinds of applications.”
