The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted certification to Applied Information’s Glance Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (CV2X) Roadside Unit (RSU), enabling the firm to sell the solution to eligible agencies that operate and maintain streets and highways.
Unlike standard RSUs, the Glance C-V2X technology comes preloaded with safety and convenience applications, removing the need for expensive and time-consuming configuration and customization. Once installed and turned on, the Glance system is fully operational.
For example, when connected to a traffic signal, the Glance C-V2X system enables applications such as emergency vehicle preemption, transit signal priority, red light violation warnings, Get Ready for Green prompts and “signal in flash” warnings.
“The Glance C-V2X solution is designed to quickly and easily enable deployment of day one connected vehicle safety applications in the transportation infrastructure,” said Bryan Mulligan, president of Applied Information. “It is future-proofed with over-the-air software updates and provides transportation managers with game-changing infrastructure monitoring and management far in advance of conventional RSUs.”
Other applications for the Glance C-V2X solution include connected school zone safety beacons. As demonstrated with Audi, Glance C-V2X uses connected school beacons to warn motorists when they are approaching an active school zone and if they are speeding.
Glance CV2X also works with smartphone apps to warn pedestrians, cyclists and motorists of potential collisions and other road dangers. The Applied Information C-V2X RSU’s unique “near-ground” installation eliminates the need to block traffic and use a bucket truck for RSU service.
