Kapsch TrafficCom has celebrated the successful opening of the first stage of the Moravski corridor and Ruma-Šabac highway tolling project in Serbia, which once fully complete will use the firm’s smart toll technology across more than 100 lanes.
The first stage of the project, between Ruma and Šabac in the greater Belgrade area, was completed in less than six months – a record time for tolling projects of this kind. The project has a volume of €4.3m.
Phases two and three, for the new highway in the Moravski corridor, are on track to go live within the coming months. Once completed, Kapsch TrafficCom technology will be used for more than 100 lanes and 12 plazas.
The tolling plazas, which were erected by local partner Orion, are equipped with the Kapsch SmartTOLL technology for easy and comfortable tolling transactions.
Carolin Treichl, EVP EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom, said, “It is a testament to both the cooperation with our local partner Orion as well as to our own team that managed to complete the first phase of the toll system in record time. With SmartTOLL, the new highways will benefit from an efficient and robust tolling solution.”
In addition to the SmartTOLL system, in January of 2023 Kapsch TrafficCom was awarded the contract for nationwide tolling operations in Serbia for €1m. Also, it has concluded hardware deals in Serbia, North Macedonia and Republika Srpska for a total of €1.85m. The deals will bring the TÜV-certified and EU taxonomy-aligned on-board unit TRP-4010, the most sustainable on-board unit in its class, to local operators and partners.
