Bellevue, in Washington State, is only a modestly sized city of around 150,000 inhabitants, but it has a growing reputation as one of the most innovative in the United States when it comes to traffic management. Speaking at the ITS America Conference & Expo 2024 in Phoenix this week (April 22-25), Bellevue’s smart mobility manager Daniel Lai, talks about how the city is fusing lidar and AI as well as his excitement about the growing possibilities of edge computing – and how it can all lead to improved road safety.
