One of the leading developers and suppliers of advanced transportation equipment, McCain Inc., has introduced the new FLeX Controller, the smallest unit in its popular ATC eX series of advanced transportation controllers, and the smallest design in the company’s history.
Measuring just 5.5in (14cm) tall, the compact FLeX Controller is packed with new features and capabilities, including front panel access to data, optional built-in wi-fi, and a full 16-line display screen that make the uploading, programing, and troubleshooting of traffic intersections even easier.
The compact design of the FLeX Controller is available in both shelf mount and rack mount configurations and easily upgrades any Caltrans or USDOT-standardized ATC cabinet without cumbersome wiring or programming. The FLeX Controller is designed in full compliance with the latest published and proposed ATC standards, offering users unprecedented speed and performance. Each controller is built to McCain’s stringent manufacturing standards, ensuring long-lasting performance in all environments.
Making use of a Linux engine board, the FLeX Controller has a real-time, open source operating system that supports the latest ITS applications, including high-resolution data and connected vehicle applications. The controller features an oversized 16-line display with a split-screen option for users operating McCain’s Omni eX Intersection Control Software. The user-friendly front panel of the FLeX Controller allows for easy connection in any environment through a wide variety of communication options: USB, SD card, Ethernet, and Datakey. Optional wi-fi integration allows users to access local software through a web interface. McCain is currently outlining plans to further develop the controller with innovative features that will continue to enhance communication and the user experience. The company, which was acquired by the Austrian Swarco Group in August last year, says the FLeX Controller is available immediately to any Department of Transportation (DOT) or highways agency.
“We are committed to making the best products the traffic industry can offer, and we’re excited to introduce yet another landmark product,” said Reza Roozitalab, vice president of hardware engineering for McCain Inc. “The compact size and advanced features of the FLeX Controller complement our most recent product release – the revolutionary Backpack Cabinet, the smallest cabinet in our ATC Cabinet Series, standing only 25in (63.5cm) tall – and greatly improve the user experience, making it the ultimate solution for traffic control.”
