It has been announced that Telent will continue to operate the digital connectivity network for National Highways and the Strategic Road Network (SRN) until 2027, with the signing of a new contract.
Telent has been working with National Highways to transform and operate the National Roads Telecommunications Service (NRTS) since 2018. During this time, a portfolio of digital platforms has been delivered to modernise the connectivity infrastructure, improve the reliability and operating performance across the network, and provide new innovative connectivity solutions, as foundations for better use of digital services in the future.
The contract supports National Highways’ Digital Road Strategy to further increase safety for road workers and users, while helping drivers and their passengers to travel with minimal delays.
The operation and management of NRTS by Telent connects over 36,000 services, including CCTV and video, information and communications systems, and traffic monitoring sensors, all of which enable National Highways to operate the Strategic Road Network.
“This commitment to our ongoing relationship with National Highways is testament to the experience and expertise of our collective teams, and our joint approach to future-proofing the critical digital infrastructure of the SRN,” days Andy Gifford, director of highways at Telent. “We’re looking forward to continuing our collaboration with National Highways to deliver digital connectivity and roll out innovative network technology, to support the provision and operation of new services.”
“Telent is extremely proud to have maintained consistently high levels of service across the NRTS network, ultimately making our roads safer and improving the overall driving experience for all road users,” added Nigel Weldon, business development director at Telent. “National Highways and Telent staff work 24/7/365 to make this happen and, as a heavy SRN user myself, I’m very thankful to them for all their hard work behind the scenes.”
Throughout the contract, Telent has worked collaboratively with National Highways to deliver leading technology solutions, providing Digital connectivity and real-time Service Management applications, enabling end-to-end Operational Technology services. Telent’s experience and expertise has provided improvements in data and connectivity coverage across the SRN, whilst continuing to deliver innovations in technology and service operation.
Pete Lawrence, NRTS head of programme at National Highways, says: “Since taking on the contract Telent have provided a responsive, robust service, with high availability, coupled with innovative technology. It enables National Highways to conduct its core service of helping ensure road users get safely to their destination.”
