The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) has successfully deployed the Q-Free’s Kinetic Mobility advanced traffic management system (ATMS) across its near 35,000 miles of state roads, spanning all 55 counties.
This upgrade from Q-Free’s OpenTMS empowers operators with a more integrated and user-friendly interface, enhancing their ability to monitor and manage roadways effectively.
West Virginia’s strategic location serves as a vital corridor for freight movement, connecting industries to major regional centers through the eastern United States. By adopting Kinetic Mobility, WVDOH underscores its commitment to pioneering technologies that enhance transportation efficiency and safety.
Kinetic Mobility is the first scalable ATMS platform that integrates all Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices into a single decision-making dashboard across freeways and arterials, eliminating the need for patchwork solutions.
Fully customizable, it offers a selection of mix-and-match modules, giving agencies the flexibility to create the perfect system tailored to their specific needs. Enhanced automation features reduce human error, free operators to focus on more complex tasks, and expedite the dissemination of critical information to the public, ensuring timely updates on road conditions and incidents.
“Our partnership with WVDOH has always been built on trust and collaboration,” he said. “This level of trust means the world to us and reinforces our commitment to delivering lasting value for WVDOH and their residents,” says Christopher Butler, Q-Free senior project manager.
WVDOH deployed Kinetic Mobility’s event management, signs, and video modules, and has plans to implement additional modules such as counts, weather, and travel time in the future.
Kinetic Mobility’s open standards compatibility also enables seamless integration with the West Virginia Parkways Authority, the state’s 511 system, and 24 e-911 centers, as well as partnerships with local news outlets and other state agencies.
“West Virginia is a fantastic partner, and they’re clearly good stewards of their residents’ time and money. In feedback, our other customers tell us they appreciate Kinetic Mobility for its ability to replace a variety of cobbled together traffic management systems, but also for its cost effectiveness since agencies are only buying exactly the modules they need,” says Mark Talbot, Q-Free CEO.
