Weight restrictions on more than 60,000 bridges in the USA limit the movement of large freight and emergency vehicles. THMPER (Targeted Hits for Modal Parameter Estimation and Rating) is a new, innovative, cost-effective technology that determines a bridge’s dynamic signature, enabling restrictions on some bridges to be slackened, easing traffic flow. The system won the 2017 Charles Pankow Award for Innovation.
